Cupping therapy has been used in many cultures throughout history. It involves the use of negative pressure, or suction cups, to lift the skin and connective tissues. This process increases space under the skin and improves circulation. The benefits of cupping therapy include increased metabolism by facilitating blood flow, releasing fascia adhesions, relaxing muscles and stiff joints, providing pain relief, and promoting effective lymph drainage. The pulling action of the suction promotes deep relaxation that can last for hours or even days.
In addition to these general benefits, cupping therapy offers specific treatments for:
Easing Breathing: By releasing restricted muscles between the ribs.
Abdominal Treatment: Stimulates organs and strengthens digestion.
Smoothing Cellulite Appearance: Loosens tight connective tissues, reducing the "dimpling" effect.
Easing TMJ Tension: Utilizes small facial cupping to alleviate tension.
There are different techniques in cupping therapy:
Moving Cupping: The cup slides on the skin while negative pressure is applied, usually not leaving cupping marks.
Stationary Cupping: Cups are placed on the treatment areas for a few minutes or longer, affecting deeper structures. This method can leave marks on the skin as stagnation is pulled out of tissues and brought to the surface. These marks are not bruises; rather, they are expanded pores and engorged blood vessels and are not painful. They typically disappear after a few days up to two weeks.
I offer cupping therapy as a standalone treatment or in combination with a massage during your scheduled session. I am thrilled to provide such an effective method as cupping therapy in my practice.
